Money, Money, Money (Not an NSYNC Rendition)

Finances make me feel like the above picture.

I LOVE the IDEA of being debt free and I mostly get frustrated with the process.

Here's an awesome quote that I read to re-ignite my fervor.  It's from Choosing Voluntary Simplicity.

I think the most difficult part of real frugality might even be the initial realization that for most people there is no shortcut to achieving a debt-free life. Unless your income is unusually high, your expenses are unusually low, and you have just been throwing your money away… it is a given that it will take time to pay off debts, build up savings, and prioritize your values. It won’t happen overnight, but if you stay on track, financial security WILL follow.
Christ is teaching me so much with this pursuit of contentment. Daily I have to turn our finances over to Him.  Some days I do better than others, but I am confident the Easter season will bring so much grace!

  1. Great quote - thank you for sharing the encouragement!

Next month we will be debt-free, except for my student loans which is HUGE for us. It has taken 2.5 years to pay down everything else but we are almost there! Keep in mind we don't own a home but we have hopes that we can make that dream a reality, soon!

Keep going towards your financial goals! It takes time - much more time than I ever thought. I cannot believe that we are over two years past when we started this journey and just now is there a little speck of light at the end of the tunnel. Those loans will haunt us awhile longer but the rest of it? Gone!

  2. Amen to that. I listen to a lot of Dave Ramsey....and Clark Howard and they say the average of getting out of debt--- really hitting it hard and working a good system of "Cash is King", etc, etc---is 3-5 years. I believe it. We've really gotten serious about our budget and being more mindful about our finances, and after a year we are just now seeing a difference being made. It didn't happen overnight, it won't be fixed overnight. My favorite DR quote is, "Live like no one else, so that you can live like no one else." Blessings and keep on keepin' on!!!
