Cloth Diapering on the Move

We are in full vacation swing and I just pulled diapers out of the dryer here at the hotel. Cloth diapering is proving to be pretty simple while we are on the move. Our system is that we carry a small wet bag (holds about five dirty diapers plus wipes) and small backpack diaper bag wherever we go.  We keep our small diaper pail and larger diaper bag in the trunk of our vehicle.

Overall traveling with cloth is great and I think it helps that we have been cloth diapering for over a year. Be not afraid those of you discerning traveling with cloth for vacation or weekend travel.  It is great to save the money you might have spent on diapers for more fun vacation experiences!

Hoping your Holy Saturday is wonderful! Headed to the pool!

Fresh and clean diapers and wipes!  We are finding that since most people don't do laundry while traveling the washing machines and dryers are in great condition with no detectable soap residue/build-up!  Praise the Lord!

  1. Cloth diapering... this is something I do not do(oh the shame!)

I had soooo many plans for how I was going to do things: natural home birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapers, natural everything!

Then my baby girl came 3.5 months early. Tramatic birth, health problems, 3 months in the hospital. She couldnt even breast feed so I pumped BM all day long for 7 months. Then I gave up. And I never got around to cloth diapering. But things are settling down now and I keep thinking I should try it. Which cloth diapers do you use? And is it really as easy as some people make it seem?

Thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us!

    1. Oh girl! Sounds like you did an amazing job - making the best of a really tough situation. Breastmilk for seven months is great! Every day that she received that strengthened her more and more. Congrats on that accomplishment.

We use cotton pre fold diapers with a variety of diaper covers - fold in three, lay in diaper cover, lay a lining or doubler over the diaper and snap your baby in!

It is so simple - once Rita hit 11 months and started really eating it got a little messy. I think part of this was because I was in early pregnancy and NOT wanting to deal with poop. But whether we cloth diapered or did disposables, I would have still been cleaning-up poop! I do think it is easy once you find your rhythm and routine. Being out in public with cloth diapers is not catastrophic and is usually simple. The biggest piece of advice is to always be armed for more than one poop diaper if you are leaving the house.
